Diego has the honour of being offered a pair of espadrilles sewn by the eldest of the village. She relates that she has been sewing espadrilles for over 60 years and that she unfortunately had to stop in her late eighties, because her eyes would no longer participate. The centenarian still controls the quality of the espadrilles her daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters sew and eventually comments their technique here and there to keep up the purity of the art.
